Getting started
Install
Download the latest build from GitHub Releases.
| Platform | File |
|---|---|
| macOS (Apple Silicon or Intel) | .dmg |
| Windows | NSIS setup .exe |
Unsigned builds
Builds are not code-signed yet.
- macOS: the first time you open the app, Gatekeeper may block it. Right-click TimeTrove in Applications, choose Open, then confirm.
- Windows: SmartScreen may warn about an unrecognised app. Choose More info, then Run anyway.
Upgrading replaces the app only. Your database is stored separately and is kept.
First run
When TimeTrove starts you'll see the tracker bar showing Not tracking, and the main window.
- Press Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+T to open the switcher.
- Type a task name, for example
Code review, and press Enter. There are no tasks yet, so TimeTrove asks you to confirm creating it. Press Enter again. - The bar now shows the task's colour, its name and today's total.
To stop, hover the bar and click the square stop button, or use Stop in the main window header.
Recommended settings
Open Settings in the main window and check:
- Daily goal. The default is 480 minutes (8 hours). The bar's clock turns gold when you reach it.
- Idle threshold. The default is 10 minutes. After this long without keyboard or mouse input, TimeTrove asks where the time went.
- Start at login. On by default, so tracking is one shortcut away each morning.
See Settings for everything else.
Where your data lives
Everything is stored in timetrove.db:
| Platform | Path |
|---|---|
| macOS | ~/Library/Application Support/com.mzbrau.timetrove/timetrove.db |
| Windows | %APPDATA%\com.mzbrau.timetrove\timetrove.db |
Settings → Database → Reveal database opens the folder. See Data and backup.
